Hello!

...and how do you do?

Welcome to the start of my art blog, Jess Creates. Here I will be sharing my artwork, be it animation, illustration or photography nonsense with you lovely people of the interweb, as well as anything else which comes to mind. It’s okay, you can humour me and pretend to be interested. I’ll also be sharing the people, art and bits of pieces I’ve stumbled on which have inspired me to create in the past, present and hopefully future. Having discovered so many blogs from artists of all sorts, I felt that it was a world I should step in to. Not before knocking politely first, that is.

A little about me and my career so far. Would you like to see my face? Here, see my face.

I like pina colada’s and getting caught in the rain. I’m a 23 year old fledgling animator, with a pocket full o' dreams and backpack of hope. Or something. I graduated roughly 2 years ago and somehow (all thanks to the fantastic organisation which is Cyfle) found myself working as a multi-platform production assistant at BBC Wales, a junior designer at Sequence and BBC Graphics and Post Production. Having decided to attempt to focus my career on what I love; animation, I applied and successfully gained a place on Scottish Screen’s rather marvellous Generating Animation Scheme Programme (G.A.S.P). This 10 month sceheme has taken me to the studios of ISO for 5 months and for the other 5 months? They see me currently working as an animator/general assistant for a new stop-motion children’s TV show, called Ooglies, produced by BBC Scotland. Phew!

My work is, well, quite the mixed bag, which you will notice here. There are so many elements I want to explore. To realise my ideas, I feel that I shouldn’t be confined by one medium. However, tactile, hand crafted stop-motion is my first love and is usually at the forefront of my projects. Over the next few weeks, I hope to share more of my thoughts on my work processes and ways of thinking too. If you'd like to see some of my existing work, free free to take a gander over at my portfolio site, jessla.co.uk.

Anyhoo, enough of THAT. Stick around and hopefully you'll be inspired by my humble offerings as well as the art of others too.
